Welcome Jet!!!!

We have been wanting a parakeet for a long time. Jerry had a really great experience with his when he was younger, and thought the kids would really enjoy having one too!

So, we did it...about a week ago, we went to the pet store and got a bird. It was fun for the kids to help with the whole process. We talked to a vet and found out her recommendations on it, and went to the store she thought was the best. Then we picked from like 30 birds, and ended up with this one. The pet store employee a.k.a. animal expert to us, was pretty sure that it was a male one. It has blue on the skin at the top of its beak, and when they are full grown....

it is bright blue if they are a male.

Anyway, they put the bird into a little box with 4 holes, and I put it under my sweatshirt so it wouldn't get cold in the night air. We drove to IHOP for Kids eat Free night, and the whole way said names we thought would be good. I liked Spike....but no one else liked that one. Fluffy, Fred, Tweety, George and even Superman came up to go along with our fish, LarryBoy. Those of you who watch Veggietales will understand that one. We snuck the bird into the restaurant with us...praying it wouldn't chirp.


We made it home and the bird was in shock! It is quite a change, poor thing! The first chance he got, he jetted out of the little box and flew around the house. It was desperately looking for a place to perch. We finally got it into its cage, and then the fun began.

We think he is finally adjusting to his new home. He even sings when we are around, and got a little hyper in the cage. His favorite perch is the mirror that Marty, Jerry's bird, claimed as his favorite too. I just think he is a little vain. J/K
